World Fisher People’s Day is observed on the territory of the UDAYAN- Bangladesh with the beneficiary of the project SSF Gender Mainstreaming Project Governance in Ecosystem-Based- Costal and Traditional Aquaculture Fishery Management on 21st of November, 2024.
This program is organised by UDAYAN- Bangladesh supported by Coast Foundation. The program officer, Meghla Zaman who organise this program with numerous people of different ages (youths, beneficiary of SSFGM-2’s fishermen and women, teachers, students, journalists and staff of UDAYAN- Bangladesh). The total number of the participants are 48.
This day is observed in three best ways. Firstly, they take part in a Rally, secondly, a small meeting is held in the hall room of UDAYAN- Bangladseh. Executive Director of the UDAYAN- Bangladesh gives speech in from all the participants and thirdly, all the participants have their meal and traveling expense.
Fish production is decreasing in one-third of the reservoirs due to man-made and natural causes. To overcome this situation and keep the production and extraction of fish stable at all levels and enrich the stock, every year on November 21, ‘World Fisheries Day’ is celebrated worldwide. General secretary of UDAYAN- Bangladesh, Esrat Jahan talks about the benefits of fish cultivation, and fishing, the reason of losing this fish resource, the importance of eating fish. She suggests everyone to stop using all sort of net which causes the reduction of the fish production. Farida Zaman, the secretary of Bangladesh Women Council speak in favor of fisher women to empower them. She again, councils the fishing community people to stand up for their rights and suggest fishermen to treat well to the fisherwomen. She talks about multi nutritious value everyday eating fish.
Finally, after the eating and giving the traveling expenses the executive director thanks everyone and ends the meeting.
