Psychosocial Session for Remal Affected Community in Coastal Region of Bangladesh is occurred today with the direction of UDAYAN- Bangladesh of the Project Emergency Assistance for Post- Cyclone Remal Affected Population in Coastal Region of Bangladesh assisted by Cordaid.
Forty participants are presented on that session consisting of both males and females and their children. In that session, two persons are males and thirty-eight persons are females. Among those twenty participants are from Motherpar village, and rest of the wenty participants are from Golbunia village take part in the session. Besides, the protection officer, Meghla Zaman of the project Emergency Assistance for Post- Cyclone Remal Affected Population in Coastal Region of Bangladesh does the training and SSF Project Program Officer, Sonia Akter assists her.
Since Meghla Zaman trains them, firstly she briefly introduces herself then she discusses what the training is about, its purpose and expectation. She clears them about the organizer and the donor of that session. After that, she tries to know about their experiences of different natural disasters specially cyclone Remal. She also makes the clear idea about the health, its types, mental health, psychosocial problem, its symptoms, stress, trauma. Moreover, she does a long discussion on psychosocial support, primary steps for psychosocial support, counselling, types of counselling, practicable and avoidable during counselling, who is Monbondhu (psychosocial counsellor), roles and responsibilities of a Monbondhu.
After the discussion, she invites questions to the participants and answers their questions. One of the participants, Rupali Akter from Golbunia who shares her husband’s psychosocial problem that happens after the cyclone Remal. She shares that her husband confines himself, not to talk everyone and his beard and hair doesn’t grow. He resembles like abnormal human being. After the session, she decides to take him to the psychologist.
Another participant Fatema Khatun from Motherpar, talks about her child’s abnormal lifestyle after the cyclone Remal. She doesn’t sleep and eat properly, remains calm down most of the time, and usually gets frighten.
Finally, SSF Project’s Program Officer thanked all the presenting persons and closed the meeting.
